Today is the 42nd anniversary of Vivien Leigh's death, so as I do every year, here is my 2009 bicentennial mega-tribute to my favorite actress. As you all know, I think Vivien Leigh was amazing. I've been a fan for 7 years and she continues to inspire me in so many ways. I love her movies, but I wish she did more of them because I think she was so talented when she had the right roles--well, she was talented anyway, but with certain roles she really reached another level. Perhaps more than her movies, I find her to have been such an interesting and alluring person. She had everything in her life that makes up an interesting story: fame, fortune, fashion sense, beauty, a powerhouse marriage, and tragedy.

I miss her though I never knew her, and to be honest, I don't get how anyone could fail to appreciate her contributions to moviedom. In the wise words of David Niven, Jr: "The Academy didn't think she was 'good', they thought she was 'the best'. Twice. It's not like she fucked her way to popularity." Truer words were never relayed to me via telephone.

This took me forever to assemble yesterday. Not dial-up friendly...at all.

Vivien Leigh: November 5, 1913--July 7, 1967

People think that if you look decent, you can't possibly act. )

The new [info]picspammy theme is "Short Form": short films, trailers, music videos, etc. As soon as I saw it I knew immediately what I would post. My favorite of all favorite music videos, of course! Inspired by George Melies' A Trip to the Moon, this 1996 video comes from what has got to be one of the best albums of the 90s: the symphonic Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

And our lives are forever changed / we will never be the same / the more you change the less you feel )

You can count on me posting stills from at least one other SP video before the current theme is up. They were THAT GOOD.

You guys, the couple that were fostering Coco before I adopted her have a new Siamese named Nabi, and Sam said he'd make a good boyfriend for Coco.

Well, he does look like he should be wearing a smoking jacket and monocle, but he's been de-clawed on his front paws :/ so he'd be at a disadvantage from the Duchess...that and I can't afford to get another one. Sorry, Nabi :(

Here's Coco's banana tail.

Anyway, it's friday and I'm waiting for the maintenence people to come over and fix the vent in my bathroom, so here's a picspam of you know who in the mean time.

No darling, it's not that the gloves are too small, it's that your hands are too big. )

I'm going camping--like real pitch-a-tent, roast some marshmallows camping--with [info]dinosawus, [info]victorianlilac and [info]jiggahava this weekend. Seeing as I haven't been camping since I was like 10, I'm pretty stoked about it! I hope The Duchess doesn't get into any trouble while I'm gone. I've given Marika instructions on how to care for her, but I doubt Coco will let Marika touch her so it shouldn't be too hard.

Also, I ordered two new bathing suits from Victoria's Secret, and the bottoms on one of them are too big :/, so I have to send them back for an exchange and pay for shipping. BOO.

Anyways, here's a picspam.

Prompt: Events
# of Pics: 25
Bystanders: Laurence Olivier, Olivia DeHavilland, Mervyn LeRoy, Fay Bainter, Spencer Tracy, Jock Whitney, David O. Selznick, Thomas Mitchell

Fun facts: Vivien Leigh was the first British woman to win an Oscar. She was 26 at the time, and the most famous girl in the world after GWTW. She had some stiff competition including Bette Davis and Greta Garbo, but she kicked ass and took names that evening. Her dress, designed by Irene, was a trend setter, and her necklace, what looks like topaz, was a gift from then-fiancee, Laurence Olivier, from van Cleef and Arpels. Viv never cared very much about movies, and so her GWTW Oscar served as a doorstop in her London home, and was sold at Christie's to a private collector in the 1990s for a record half-million dollars.

She would win a second Oscar for best actress for her role as Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, beating out Katharine Hepburn. This Oscar was stolen from her London house while she was in hospital recovering from her nervous breakdown in 1953.

I did a small friends cut. Just people who I know I never really talk to even when we do both update, or you just never update anymore. You're all awesome people and I wish you the best life has to offer, but I don't feel we really have that much in common, or maybe we're just not interested in each other's LJ posts, which is fine as well.

If you want to be added back, let me know, otherwise, best wishes.

I decided to do a friends cut. I thought of not posting about it, but I didn't want people to get upset. Basically I removed people who I never interact with and vice versa--like, ever, or if a journal hasn't been updated in a long time, or if you got a new LJ but I had your old one still added, then I deleted your old one.

I know I asked some of you to be friends and I know I've been friends with some of your for a really long time, but I just feel like we don't have much if anything in common anymore--at least from what we write about in our LJs. I don't mean to offend anyone, I think you're all super, and I wish you all the best :)
